Homeopathic Dilution Reference Chart

I just added this chart to the Wikipedia entry on homeopathy.
Chart of Homeopathic Dilutions

X Scale C Scale Ratio Note
1X 1:10 described as low potency
2X 1C 1:100 considered higher potency than 1X
6X 3C 1:1,000,000
8X 4C 1:100,000,000 same as allowable concentration of arsenic in US drinking water
12X 6C 1:1,000,000,000,000
24X 12C 1:10 24 Chemically unlikely to contain any molecules of original material
400X 200C 1:10 400 Dilution of popular flu remedy, Oscillococcinum

I really hope that this doesn’t get removed from Wikipedia, because I strongly feel a chart like this is needed. The terminology surrounding homeopathic medication is very confusing to many people.

Especially difficult to understand is the way that homeopathics refer to smaller concentrations as higher potencies.

A lot of homeopathic medicines on the market do contain the active ingredient, but I think most people would be surprised to learn that many of the most popular homeopathic remedies contain not one single molecule of active ingredient.

Homeopathic theory is that the water left over after a high dilution is “energized” by the molecules that were in it and these energy vibrations are passed on in the final product.

For more on this subject, I recommend checking out Skeptoid’s episode about Homeopathy.
